Frequently Asked Questions

Quote:  If you do not have a vision for the future, then your future is threatened to be a repeat of the past.  A. R. Bernard.

Why would I need a financial coach?

  • Someone might need some assistance with developing a financial plan for short-term and long-term goals.
  • Perhaps you have a few basic questions that, once answered, will empower you to continue on your financial journey.
  • Budget?  What is a budget?
  • Your current financial plan is not working.
  • You want to get out of debt faster
  • You are tired of the marriage fights caused by financial stress.

Can I afford a financial coach?

Although financial coaching can at first seem expensive, depending on your financial situation and current plan, the rewards and progress you can make will far outweigh the initial expense.  We have also found that many people can find money to spend on something they want such as new clothes, the latest electronics, or a summer vacation.  Many clients have said that the fee more than pays for itself in the savings that they found by developing a good cash-flow plan.  Bottom line, can you afford not to?

Will you break up the counseling fee into payments?
We generally do not break up the counseling fee into payments for this simple reason: we do not want to become another one of your creditors.  Only for special cases are we willing to separate payment into 2 smaller payments.  Therefore, we request the payment in full, up front by check, at the beginning of the 2 hour counseling session.  We are in the process of setting up payment by debit or check card over the phone.

What if my spouse will not come? Can I still work with a counselor?
Our policy requires that both spouses attend the counseling.  We have found that counseling only half of the marriage does not work.  This must be a team effort.  Try sitting down with your spouse in a non-distracting environment and communicating how much you love them and how much you want them to participate in the finances.  Do not let this be a time to nag, yell, scream, etc.  Tell him/her that attending financial counseling and/or FPU can be a Christmas/birthday/anniversary gift to you this year.
